LESSON PLAN




Subject            : Advanced English Vocabulary
Object             : University/College Students (2nd Semester)
Time                : 2x45 Minutes
Level               : Upper Intermediate

Goal               
 To teach the students word-use through English idiom

Objectives:
By the end of this meeting the students are able to:
1.      Identify idioms in the sentences
2.      Identify the meaning of idioms in the context of sentences.
3.      Apply the use of idioms in the sentence

Resources:
§  Internet
§  KangGuru Magazine

Material:
§  English Idioms

Equipment/media:
§  LCD/Projector

Procedures
1.      Opening (5 minutes)
§  The teacher greets the students  
§  The teacher checks the students’ attandence list
§  The teacher introduces the learning material

2.      Main Activities
Pre-activities
·         The teacher introduces idiom to the students by showing the example of idioms in some sentences.
·         The teacher asks the student to guess or identify the idioms in the sentences.
·         The teacher asks the students to identify the meaning of the idioms through synonym or situational explanation.

Whilst-activities
§  The teacher divides the class into five groups.
§  The teacher explains the instruction and gives the model of the activity.
§  The teacher gives each group five different idoms including its meaning (there will be twenty five different idioms).
§  The students discuss the given idioms in their group.
§  The students present the idoms to the other groups by giving situation (taking turn).
§  The other groups guess the meaning of the idioms.
§  The teacher gives the point for those who give correct answer
§  The groups who get the most point will be the winner.

Post-activities
§  The teacher discusses the conclusion about the teaching and learning activities with the students.
§  The teacher gives individual assignment
1.      Find  20 different  idioms (
2.      Put it in sentences (for each)
3.      Submit it next meeting

3.      Closing
§  The teacher ends the activities of the class.
§  The teacher reminds the student’s assignment
§  The teacher says farewell

Assessment
  • The assessment is conducted during the activities
  • Students’ assessment will be conducted based on the following components:
a.       Active participation (non-test)     
b.      Individual assignment
Correct answer : 5
Wrong answer  : 1
Total score : correct answer (5) x 20 = 100
