Floods submerge 5 villages in N. GorontaloThe Jakarta Post, Gorontalo | Archipelago | Thu, February 28 2013, 6:11 AM
Heavy rain on
Tuesday caused two rivers, Leyao and Bubode, to burst their banks and flood
five villages in the Tomilito district, North Gorontalo regency, Gorontalo.
The villages are Molintidu, Huidu Melito, Leyao, Bubode and Milango.
North Gorontalo
Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) head Nurdin Humolungo said the floodwater
was between 30 and 50 centimeters deep, inundating 306 houses in the five
villages.
Despite the
natural disaster, the residents chose to stay at home. The floods also
submerged around 35.32 hectares of rice fields in Milango, Bubode and
Molintidu.
"We confirm
that the rice fields were totally destroyed and could not be
harvested," Nurdin said, adding that four mosques and three schools
were also flooded. The situation has also forced students to stay out of
their schools. They might be able to return to school on Thursday.
Tahir Laendeng,
logistic and emergency unit head at the BPBD, called on the residents to
stay alert following the possible heavy rain that might still hit areas
across Gorontalo.
The areas that
are prone to flooding are the Tapa and Bone Pesisir districts, Bone Bolango
regency, parts of the Trans Gorontalo-North Sulawesi route in North
Gorontalo and some parts of Gorontalo City.

Lady Gaga Undergoes Hip Surgery- Voa news
February 21, 2013
Lady Gaga said she has
undergone surgery to repair an injured hip that forced the pop singer last
week to cancel the remainder of her concert tour.
The "Born This
Way" singer thanked fans in a blog post on her littlemonsters.com fan
website on Thursday, saying the setback was "just a bump in the
road."
"As they wheeled me
into surgery...I thought about all of your pain and perseverance, your
unique family situations, school environments, health issues, homelessness,
identity struggles," wrote Lady Gaga, who often engages with her fans
about their personal problems.
"So I thought to
myself, 'I'm alive; I'm living my dream, and this is just a bump in the
road,'" she added.
The 26-year-old singer
tweeted on Wednesday that she was heading into surgery to treat a labral
tear of her right hip.
No timetable has been set
for Lady Gaga to return to performing, and her tour operator said last week
that she would need "strict downtime."
Lady Gaga has been on the
road for two years, performing concerts on six continents.
The injury forced her to cancel some two dozen concerts in the United States as part of her "Born This Way Ball" tour. |

identified as Sa, threw a stainless steel ruler at him during class.Mohammad Nabil Syauqi, 7, a student of SDN Srengseng Sawah 06 Pagi elementary school in South Jakarta, had several times asked his parents to move him to another school, caused by probable trauma. "The latest was yesterday. As he [Nabil] arrived home, he told his mother that his teacher threw a ruler at him," the father, Syahrul Syarif, told reporters on Wednesday. Syahrul said Nabil sustained some injuries on his foot and refused to meet the teacher. He had asked the school to transfer the teacher or report the case to the police Principal Widi Fatimah apologized over the incident and promised to reprimand Sa. She requested that the student's family make no report to the police. "We will check whether the actions were intentional or not, and hope that this problem can be resolved in a good way," she told a press conference on Wednesday. "However, the authority to transfer a teacher lies with the Education Agency. As of now, we will move Nabil to another classroom." |
